1979 F150 4x4, with the
Premium "Ranger"
trim package. 1979 was the pinnacle of Fords truck production, and
1979 is arguably the most desirable year. It was the last of the
straight axles Dana 44 half tons. This 4x4 is 99.9% rustfree
western survivor. It even still features the original rare orange and
white deluxe paint scheme, on a pretty straight body for being over 35 years
old. This Ranger features a
strong 400 V8, nice shifting 4 speed, and a smooth clutch. It also has
dealer installed Ford A/C "not working", PS, PDB,
desirable bed side storage box, etc. The tires have nice tread and are
mounted on later model factory ford alloy wheels.
This truck is very stock
including the original AM radio. The engine runs
nice with no smoke or noise. It has nice sounding dual exhaust, but
the passengers exhaust manifold has the gasket leaking. The
truck drives very tight. The brakes are new with new calipers and pads
up front and new wheel cylinders and shoes in the rear. The suspension
is tight. The 4x4 system works perfect, also.
The F150's like the F250's
feature the high pinion Dana 44 Front axle, and the bullet proof NP205
transfer case.
This truck like any 35 year old original survivor isn't perfect. The
hood is damaged on the left front. The previous owner had it off to
detail under the hood and ran into it. I call it 99.9% rustfree
because the passengers floor in the front part has some small pinholes from
the jute padding on the back of the rubber mat getting wet over time and
started the rust. The drivers side is rock solid with just some
surface rust and dirt. It's just tough to find them 100% rustfree
anymore. However, this one has some of the cleanest door seems and
door jambs I have seen in a while. Also, the plastic liner for the bed
side tool box got melted somehow.
This is a clean original 4x4,
that has been used but not abused. I would hop in and drive it anyplace.
