One of a kind 1979 Chevy Van 30 1 ton,
with both the "Pathfinder" 4x4 conversion and "Contempo" custom conversion.
This is an original 70's time capsule survivor, right down to the 70's style
original paint and shag carpet. She is 100% rustfree from California. It
is a one owner vehicle that was donated to a charity organization in
California. This rare 4x4 van runs and drives unbelievable. It
has a strong smooth 400 small block, with a freshly rebuilt TH350 automatic.
Here's some info on the Pathfinder
4x4 Conversion. Pathfinder was based in California, and did 4x4 van
conversions for the big 3 automakers in the 70's. These conversions
were sold as new by the car dealers in that era, so they were built to very
high standards. It starts up front with a leaf sprung Dana 44 with
Pathfinder labeled locking hub units. Then they installed a bullet
proof NP205 gear to gear transfercase, behind the factory TH350 automatic.
The Tcase handle also caries the Pathfinder logo. The rear is a
limited slip 14 bolt corporate unit with 4.10 gears. They also
installed an auxiliary fuel tank. Finally, Pathfinder put their
trademark red, white and blue "K" emblems on the both sides of the front and
the rear. These vans were built well and strong
I don't know a lot about the "Contempo"
conversion company. They put the custom paint over the factory Chevy
silver. Then they installed swivel captains chairs up front and a
table and another swivel captains chair in the mid section of the van.
Then they installed a sink with fresh water storage, and a fridge.
They put additional windows, custom shag carpet, stereo, diamond tucked
headliner, and some other custom touches. I love driving it and
everyone who sees it loves it.
It only has 13,408 showing on the
odometer, so its probably 113. None the less, she runs, and drives
excellent. Other options include A/C, PS, PDB, tilt, cruise, etc. The suspension is tight, and the brakes
stop straight and smooth. It is hard to criticize much about this one
of a kind find.
As I mentioned this was given to a
charity to sell. The charity has all the titles for vehicles they sell
banded as salvage so that no person or organization can go back on them for
any reason. I have had other California vehicles that have been sold
the same way and have the same branding. Bottom line it is an almost
100% original vehicle with all of its original paint, so there is no way it
has ever had any type of accident. No matter how you slice it, she is
just plain cool.
Enjoy the pics. |
