Hard to
find and desirable
1978 F250 4x4 with Top-of-the-Line "Lariat" trim. 1978 was the first
year for the Lariat trim package. Prior to 78 that point the Ranger XLT was the
top-of-the-line. This Lariat is 90% RUSTFREE from California, and
still features it's original paint on a pretty straight and uncut body.
It not only has the "Lariat" fancy trim package, but also the heavy duty
"Camper Special" package. Again, the Lariat package got all the fancy
interior and exterior trim. Whereas the Camper Special package got the
heavy duty parts like dual batteries, front and rear anti-sway bars, bigger
brakes, extra coolers, etc.
Being a Lariat it
is
well optioned including: strong smooth rebuilt 400 ,nice shifting 4
speed manual , dual tanks, A/C, tilt, the big front disc brakes, F & R anti-sway bars,
etc. This truck also has the cool looking factory tie down hooks on
the bed and tailgate. Here is a little more detail on the rebuilt
engine, and new clutch. The original 400 was fully rebuilt including a
full valve job, .030 pistons, new bearings, oil pump, and timing chain.
It also got a mold towing cam, and an Edelbrock intake a carb. Finally
it got a complete new clutch kit and flywheel resurface. The engine
runs like a watch, and the clutch is silky smooth.
These pre 80 Fords
were true heavy duty 4x4's. They got Dana 44 fronts, bullet proof 205
transfer cases, and stout Dana 60 rears.
I call this truck
90% rust-free, because it has rust in unusual places. I suspect this
truck was from a coastal area of California originally. I have
included detailed pictures of the rust. The truck is still totally
structurally sound. I would enjoy the truck as-is myself. The
truck still has a nice look and stance.
The interior is
complete and still has the correct Lariat door panels, and headliner.
It also has a nice sounding JVC AM/FM/CD stereo.
This truck isn't
the nicest Lariat I have ever had, but I can't hardly find this cool stuff
anymore. I am really struggling to find any pre 80 Fords. If you
want one of these trucks you better not wait. They are all but gone at
prices like this.
Bottom line this is
a true classic 4x4. It is rare, well optioned, and is
a desirable color. I have priced it way less than if it
were 100% rustfree. I am leaving plenty of room for the buyer to do
this truck right or enjoy as is. If it were 100% rustfree the price would be closer
to $20k plus.
